Beware of Cheap Health Insurance in Georgia
Everyone in Georgia is looking for affordable health insurance. You’d have to be crazy not to try to find affordable health insurance in GA. Especially with the way health insurance rates are going up, notably in the metro Atlanta area. But sometimes you have to be a little extra careful.
Once in a while we get a call from someone who claims they have found the best and 'most affordable' health insurance plan in Atlanta. This new health insurance plan gives them "many more health cover benefits at significantly lower costs".
Usually, the health insurance is from a company that we have never heard of (and we know every reputable health insurance provider in Georgia). After a few more questions, we ask the person to fax the summary of health insurance benefits this new company is offering.
Then the truth emerges. When we review the actual health insurance benefits - which most consumers don’t know how to read and interpret - we can tell right away that this 'most affordable health insurance' has gaping holes in the coverage.
For example, the health insurance benefits may limit the dollar amount for hospitalization per day. The health insurance benefits may cap the amount a doctor and anesthesiologist will get paid. This means that any health insurance claim above these limits could become your responsibility.
If something sounds too good to be true, it generally is. If you see health insurance plans in Georgia that promise the moon at half the price, it is wise to look a little deeper. Most of the time, you won’t know you have a problem with your 'most affordable' health insurance in Georgia until you have a claim. By that time, it may be too late.
And worst, you might find yourself stuck with that company if you are not insurable for other coverage in Georgia.
