Give kids a smile day: Free Dental Health Services to Children in Georgia

Senior students at the Armstrong Atlantic State University Dental Hygiene Clinic gave up a day to assist some 250 children at the Give Kids a Smile Day on Feb. 5 with cleanings, routine care and hygiene and other dental health services. The annual event, sponsored by the Georgia Dental Association, provided free dental services to children ages 3-18.

Kimberly Coulton, a faculty member in the AASU Department of Dental Hygiene, explained the motivation behind Give Kids a Smile Day: "February is Children's Dental Health Month, and the GDA coordinates events like these to give back to the community," she said. "The association and the AASU dental hygiene department recognize that there is a need within our communities, particularly among lower income families, due to loss or reduction of income and dental insurance. Our goal is to raise awareness about children's dental health."
