Health insurance - we all pay

Those people who enjoy having employee health benefits in Georgia can be seen to be some of the lucky ones. With the jobless rate rising, employee benefits for those still employed may have to be trimmed back. With less people to cover, an employer may not get the same rate of health insurance benefit as when they had more people to cover. With bigger health insurance premiums comes of course less money for other things and so the circle continues. But there are other things to consider when looking at your entitlements through an employer health benefit scheme.

Because YOU are not paying for the helath insurance premium yourself you may be lulled into thinking you can get something for nothing. Because the health insurance company is footing the bill the doctors and the physicians may be tempted to over prescribe or over consult and offer you procedures and tests they may not have done, or you may not have taken up if you did have to pay the health insurance premium yourself.

Ask questions:

Is this necessary? Why are we doing this? How much will this cost?

And if your employer is footing the bill - ask, will they still want to employ me if I cost them a lot of money?
