Blue Cross Gives Bad News for Immigrants Over Age 65 in GA
Blue Cross of GA no longer insure people over the age of 65 who are not eligible for Medicare. This is bad news for many immigrants who have come into the U. S. later in life and have not worked enough quarter hours to be eligible for Medicare benefits in GA. As we posted last year, Blue Cross of GA was one of the only health plans in Georgia who covered individuals over age 65 who were not eligible for medicare. But not any more.
We tried talking to the management to understand why such decision was made and if they would reconsider changing their policies, but were not successful in getting a response.
Many of our clients who hope to bring their parents into the U. S. to stay with them for extended periods may have to think twice if they are not eligible to obtain long term major medical benefits for them.
While BCBS of GA no longer offers health care for seniors without Medicare, there are global healthcare policies one can apply for which may cover immigrants in the U. S. But it's a shame we had to lose one of our most trusted companies as a vendor for our customers.
Hopefully, some other health insurance carrier in GA will consider offering products to this under served senior market.
