The federal health insurance debate moves onto pregnancy and abortions 

As the debate over what is going to be covered in the new health insurance bill. The latest debate surrounds pregnancy and maternity health insurance and in particular - abortion. There are concerns from both sides of the floor and both sides of each party, and both sides want amendments - adding additional health insurance clauses to the bill could stop the new government insurance plan from covering abortions, except in cases or rape, incest or the life of the mother being in danger. That's the basic rule currently in federal law.

But also at stake, are health plans that receive federal subsidies in a new insurance marketplace being unable to offer abortion coverage. Insurers, however, could sell separate coverage for abortion, which individuals would have to purchase entirely with their own money.

Understanding current health insurance cover is daunting. Add in all the new clauses, exceptions and rulings that are likely to come from the health insurance debate and it will only get more confusing.
