Seniors turning to Medicaid to cover costs

With the growing costs of health insurance for individuals, with the numbers of people out of work growing and the numbers of seniors who are unable to keep up with the rising costs and unable to obtain work because of their age, more people are turning to Medicaid to cover basic costs. However, Medicaid has also become the solution of last resort for those people who need access to nursing home care.

Seniors turning to Medicaid to cover costs

Medicaid pays for almost 28,000 Georgians to live in nursing homes, according to the state Department of Human Resources. The state receives about 2,200 Medicaid applications a month for nursing home care, although more than 40 percent are denied.
