Atlanta, GA Health Insurance Premiums Rising for State Employees Again
State employees in Georgia are looking at an increase in their health insurance premiums. During the final three months of the current budget year, the state is going to decrease the share it pays of employee premiums, forcing workers to pick up the difference. Ffor an employee covered by United Health Care’s HMO plan there will be a scheduled 10% rise scheduled when the next fiscal year begins.

State health commissioner Rhonda Medows told a joint appropriations committee on Thursday that Gov. Sonny Perdue’s budget proposal contains another 10 percent premium hike for 2011. That’s on top of the 10 percent jump in 2010.
Whilst the state of Georgia tries to balance its budget, people who live and work in Atlanta, GA will be expected to pay extra for their health insurance premiums.
In addition lab tests and screenings for HIV and sexually transmitted diseases will no longer be free when the state Department of Community Health begins charging $10 for each April 1, except for patients who can't afford it.
