Savannah: Will Barrow vote aid health insurance coverage?

Unemployed Georgians do not have the benefit of employer-offered health insurance. Yet it seems ironic that these are the same people who would be least likely to afford medical assistance. There are a range of short-term insurance plans in GA designed to cover the unemployed populace of Georgia, but as money dwindles health insurance can be one of the first things to be cut from the family budget.

Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) recently voted to extend unemployment insurance benefits for American families who have been hit hardest by the recession. The Unemployment Compensation Act of 2009 will provide immediate assistance by extending relief to the estimated 314,000 workers who would otherwise exhaust their unemployment benefits by the end of this month.

And with approximately 1 million people due to run out of unemployment benefits by the end of the year, the unemployment insurance will come as a much needed boost. How much of this can be directed to short-term health insurance is another matter for unemployed Georgians.
