Kaiser survey: workers face higher deductibles

For the past 11 years Kaiser has co-sponsored an annual survey into healthcare costs and coverage.

In the 2009 Kaiser HRET survey, released September 23rd, it reveals that many workers covered under group health insurance are facing higher deductibles as well has being expected to co-contribute to the premiums for their health coverage.

In 2009, 22% of workers covered under group health insurance plans have to pay a minimum of $1,000 out-of-pocket annually for single health insurance coverage before their plan kicks in. This compares with just 10% of workers in the 2006 Kaiser survey.

Kaiser reports that workers at smaller firms are the most likely to face high deductibles.

The survey is a joint project of the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust.
